Essensen i restorative yoga utgörs av vila, återhämtning och återuppbyggnad. I en klass med inriktning på “restorative” bjuds vi in att stanna upp, koppla av och finna stillhet. Med hjälp av olika yogapositioner skapar vi förutsättningar för kropp, nervsystem och sinne att varva ner och påbörja återhämtning.
Syftet med denna grundkurs är först och främst att erhålla en egen erfarenhetsbaserad upplevelse av denna unika metod och därifrån skapa förståelse för vad restorative yoga innebär.
Restorative, Foundation Course
The essence of Restorative yoga is based on rest and recovery. In a class with focus on “restorative” we are being invited to take a step back, relax and find stillness. With the help of different yoga postures we are creating the opportunity for the body, the nervous system and the mind to calm down and start their recuperation. The purpose of this course is first and foremost to establish a personal experience based knowledge around this method and from there create an understanding of what Restorative yoga means.
During this course we will explore postures and alignment with the help of different props such as blankets, bolsters and blocks. We will also investigate how a certain posture can be changed and modified for different body types.
Practical sessions on back bends, forward bends, twists and simple inversions. How to build and sequence yoga sessions based on restorative. Deepening the understanding of Savasana (dead mans pose) and why it is sometimes called the most important asana (posture). Physiological sessions on the Parasympathetic nervous system as well as the positive effects of relaxation. Facts and discussions around common patterns and reactions on stress as well as how we usually build up strategies to cope with too much stress. We will highlight the relationship to time as an important part of the practice and will discuss how the yogic principles can be applied outside of the yoga room. The overall theme for the course is how to welcome “being without doing” and we will address the possible challenges that stillness can imply.

The course is designed for people who would like to deepen their understanding of Restorative yoga as well as yoga teachers who would like to include Restorative into their classes.
Sarah Jonsson has worked as a yoga teacher for more than 15 years and started teach Restorative in 2008. She has a background within social science with a degree in psychology (focusing on stress and coping strategies). Sarah studies therapeutic yoga together with Judith Hanson Lasater, the pioneer within the field of Restorative yoga, and assists at a number of Judith’s trainings around the world.
