PranayamaHatha Yoga

Sara began her professional journey as a classical musician, studying for 6 years at schools such as Malmö Music College and Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Her path of practicing yoga began the year of 2000 and Sara is now an “Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher” (ERYT) according to Yoga Alliance standards and a senior teacher at Samahita Retreat, one of the most successful yoga schools in Asia where she taught regularly for 10 years. She is Content Director for the Techer Training Section at yogayama and writes and runs the well reputed program together with Caroline Westling. Saras deep and compassionate understanding of asana comes from many years of practicing ashtanga vinyasa yoga and traditional hatha yoga, with teachers like Paul Dallaghan, Chuck Miller, Richard Freeman and Dona Holleman. She is a long term student of Shri. O. P Tiwari and has through the method of classical pranayama developed her understanding of the importance of a balanced breath in both yoga practice and in life. Today Sara teaches courses, retreats and workshops regularly with her husband Guy Powiecki. In her classes she highlights the deep meaning of the inner attitude in practice, often using chanting, meditation and gratitude.

“My body awareness began with studying gymnastics and martial arts from a young age. I have always felt right at home in the element of moving the body and fell in love with the dynamic aspect of asana as a natural development from the martial arts. In both these traditions you find a natural respect for the human wonder as a whole, and in learning to control the physical body another, and more deep, contact with myself started to grow. It was quite a remarkable experience. Today the seated practice (pranayama and meditation techniques) is something I can’t live without. It has changed how I see and interact with the world in so many ways. Working towards yoga, weather it happens in a movement or in complete silence and stillness, becomes about getting to know myself, in all its shapes and forms. If I can see me, then I open up the capacity of seeing others. I can’t think of anything more interesting, rewarding and humbling to get involved with in this life.”

Sara’s classes are for me a practice around what it means to be in total and absolute awareness. We are being guided through the breath and as the breath deepens we meet and feel very inch of our bodies. Sara allows things to take time which makes it possible to see the details. And the vibration of her chanting creates effects far beyond the class itself. A class with Sara is like a sacred moment in time and space.”

Sara’s dedication, knowledge and enthusiasm for yoga makes her classes a way for me to deepen my own practice. I’m given something special and unique attending her classes.”

Kerstin S

Sara creates a magical vibration that moves through the entire class and becomes a part of my being. She has the ability to show the beauty and the importance of the simple things, both in asana and in life in general. She can make the most basic asana interesting again and again. Regardless of your level of experience in yoga you will always learn something new. The residue of calm after Sara’s classes remains with me, it is yoga magic.”

YOGAYAMA KLASSERSTARTING AUGUST 2018
