Yogayama is expanding the yoga concept to new cities. We will start our journey spring 2019 with our neighboring countries by visiting Oslo and Copenhagen with masterclasses in each city. We are looking forward to share our extensive knowledge as a yoga school and share our “education in yoga”.
Caroline Westling and Sara Granström are the core and the creative force behind the Yogayama Teacher Training Program in Stockholm, the most highly regarded training for yoga teachers in Scandinavia. With quality and a genuine approach to what it means to grow as a yogi, Yogayama has become the natural choice for many practitioners as they decided to move forward with their own relationship to yoga.
You will experience in your own body why pranayama is considered to be such a great method for spiritual growth. Classical Hatha Yoga in particular has over thousands of years gradually increased the understanding of the importance of the breath. This knowledge has been developed, through generations of practitioners, but also more recently through scientific studies. The breath is one of the key pathways towards increased awareness in practice and in life.
The asana classes are theme based: Each class will focus on different groups of yoga asanas that involve different parts of the body. Using the blueprint poses, we will concentrate on proper alignment and building a pose from the foundation up. To help you understand how to move towards posture you thought was out of your reach. You will gain a better understanding of how poses can be linked with each other and how to build up a safe lifetime practice.
Sara is one of the most experienced and skilled pranayama teachers in Europe. She has studied extensively with classical pranayama master Sri O.P Tiwari and have been authorized by him to teach. Through the method of pranayama she has developed a respectful understanding of the importance of a balanced breath in both yoga practice and in life. Sara’s deep and compassionate understanding of asana comes from many years of practicing ashtanga vinyasa yoga and traditional hatha yoga, with teachers like Paul Dallaghan, Chuck Miller, Richard Freeman and Mary Taylor. In her classes she highlights the deep meaning of the inner attitude in practice, often using chanting, meditation and gratitude.
”Sara’s classes are for me a practice around what it means to be in total and absolute awareness. We are being guided through the breath and as the breath deepens we meet and feel very inch of our bodies. Sara allows things to take time which makes it possible to see the details. And the vibration of her chanting creates effects far beyond the class itself. A class with Sara is like a sacred moment in time and space.” Susanne E
” Sara creates a magical vibration that moves through the entire class and becomes a part of my being. She has the ability to show the beauty and the importance of the simple things, both in asana and in life in general. She can make the most basic asana interesting again and again. Regardless of your level of experience in yoga you will always learn something new. The residue of calm after Sara’s classes remains with me, it is yoga magic.” Anna W
Caroline has always had a deep philosophical interest in life and as a teenager she was inspired by her grandmother to start with yoga. She took her first teacher training in Ashtanga Yoga and then studied in India with Sashikala Ananth, a student of Krishnamacharya among others. It was not until she took Yoga Works Teacher Training in 2006 that she fell in love with sequencing and proper alignment and still have the privilege to continuously study with Maty Ezraty.
Caroline’s yoga classes are challenging with a sense of ease, warmth and truth. She emphasises safety and her focus is “safe practice”. The ease comes through instructions in order to learn proper alignment and to build from the foundation up. Her sequences are creative and fun, she uses props and smart ways to help you understand how to move towards posture you thought was out of your reach. She has a good eye and love for reading and understanding bodies and people. This precision of practice is about aligning asanas as well as what needs to be done in order to get rid of the illusions we might have about ourselves.
” I love Caroline’s yoga teachings. She has very well-structured classes with beautiful sequences. I like in particular her restorative classes and her foundation classes with props. Her classes are clear, with easy to follow instructions. She emphasizes a safe practice with precise alignment and a beautiful connection to the breath. Caroline teaches from the heart with a deep understanding from her own experience, always with compassion and some humor. ” Franziska S
” Caroline is one of my absolute favourite teachers. She has a great ability to set my body up for specific asanas. With props and fantastic guiding, she makes advanced positions more available. It’s like she is communicating with my body instead of me and my head. In addition to her great understanding of energy in poses, she is so well rooted in the tradition and philosophy of yoga that I can really rest in her space and feel safe.” Nenne A
